The hardworking Zyon Trujillo is now a back-to-back state champion for wrestling. Although he is a junior and does not attend Silverado High School, he is in our zone, and he definitely brings skill to the table for our wrestling team.
Trujillo has been wrestling for three years and completed in jujitsu before he started wrestling. His confidence gradually grew with the help of one of his old jujitsu coaches, who helped him stay centered even when Trujillo’s doubts were strong.
Trujillo says he just can’t get enough of the “thrill” he gets out of wrestling. It’s one of his favorite parts. The high-paced intensity is what stimulates him to “just go and don’t stop.”
The high exhilaration is what makes Trujillo strong and determined in every match. At first, wrestling was difficult for him, but his motivation became more intense once he started to accomplish more. The mental high off accomplishment is “a feeling no other sport has given me, so it’s a lot more rewarding,” he explained.
Trujillo’s motivation also stems from “knowing how much potential I have and the thought of what comes out of the hard work I put in and the results I could get out of it.”
Aside from taking care of himself during matches and tournaments, Trujillo also makes sure to contribute care for his team. His motivation tactics include reminding them that it is always possible for any one of them to win it all. He also reminds them of an important saying that comes from their coaches: “It can be you,” or “Why can’t it be you?”
Trujillo’s favorite moment of the season was going to the State championships in Bullhead City, Arizona.
“When we went to travel there, it was a great time with the team, and the whole atmosphere and environment was really exciting,” Trujillo said.
After high school, Trujillo plans to go to college, however, he isn’t sure yet which college to commit to. While majoring in psychology, he also intends to wrestle after high school. Trujillo’s accomplishments are truly impressive. It’s not every day that we see a back-to-back state champion.
